MUK issues tough guidelines ahead November elections

As makerere University 88th Guild election roadmap is out, students are expected to cast their votes on November 30, 2022 to vote for the Guild President, Guild Representative Councilors (GRCs), Senior Common Room, College Council, Debating Union and Games.
However, the dean of students Ms. Winifred Kabumbuli has confirmed that the Makerere University dully nominated candidates who don’t meet the required standards to face disqualification.
“student to run for any post of the Electoral Commission, they should have no leadership background for the past nine months, our office has received reports that some of the dully nominated candidates for the post of Electoral Commission have been student representative at different levels of student leadership,”she stated in her letter dated Nov 17 reads in part.
The University Dean of Students says anyone found contravening the election guidelines is likely to face a risk of disqualification.
The eligible candidate is expected to be a continuing student on normal progress and must have obtained a Second Class lower points of a 3.0 CGPA.
Ms Kabumbuli noted that investigations into the matter are ongoing and once verified all the said candidates will be disqualified.
