Katushabe obtained 785 votes and lost to Nasasira who got 945 votes. NRM’s Martin Nuwabine came third with 495 votes while independents Kenneth Nuwaha came fourth with 444 votes, and Augustine Erima trailed the group with 292 votes.

Katushabe in a statement accused NUP of electoral malpractices, dismissing the outcome.

Doreen said,“Therefore, I would like to disassociate myself from the election results that were announced by the chairperson of the electoral commission last evening Friday 30th September 2022.”
She said the announced results were an insult to the students because they were fake, coerced, fabricated and they do not represent the will of students
“I challenge the electoral commission to present to us as to how they arrived at the number of votes they accorded to each candidate,” she said.

“After a thorough consultation from my supporters, my campaign team, agents, party and the legal team, we have decided to challenge the election results which have no basis and do not represent the will of Musterians.”

She said they have assembled a legal team of seven lawyers to pursue the matter and restore the students’ victory and we are very much determined.
However, the MUST Electoral Commission Chairperson, Helena Nagawa Luyinda insists that the election was free and fair noting that whoever was not satisfied with the results was free to petition.

It’s always a culture that no one will accept defeat easily in any election. This is because on campaign trails you see supporters but it’s an individual voting you don’t know what a person has at heart. Who had believed that Mandu Mandua Elijah lost in the 18th Guild election of Kyambogo University because of the followers he had on his campaign trails? At the end it’s always the ballot to prove the truth not shouting.
