BIG STORY: NUP Endorses Maurice Ssemambo for Nkumba Guild Presidency Ahead Of October Polls

The Kamwokya based National Unity Platform-NUP headquarters this week endorsed Maurice Ssemambo a third year law student at Nkumba University as the party’s flag bearer in the forth coming Guild elections in October
The National Unity Platform General Secretary, David Rubongoya said that the party had endorsed Ssemambo and willing to offer all the necessary support for him to win the forth coming elections in October.
“The Nkumba University NUP Chapter paid a courtesy call this week at the party headquarter where they were welcomed warmly. Happy to see more and more young people join the cause of liberating from repression. They also presented to us their candidate in the upcoming Guild Presidential campaigns. Go and win!“, Rubongoya asserted in a tweet.

Ssemambo was given the people power barret right after his endorsement.
NUP is the political party with the majority opposition members of parliament in the country’s legislative arm with Robert Kyagulanyi at the leadership helm. The political party has since rebranding from Kibalama leadership influenced many University guild elections around the country and scored highest among opposition parties in the 2021 general elections.
Speaking shortly after his endorsement, Ssemambo assured NUP general secretary of his commitment to work closely with the secretariat for success in the Nkumba University guild race.
News reaching our desk indicate that Ssemambo’s endorsement has sent a chiller down the spines of other guild president aspirants with some taking this as a threat to withdraw from the race.
By late August, over 10 students had showed interest to vie for the University’s top most guild position but that number has since dwindles to a meager 5.
According to our insider reporter from Nkumba University, stated that NRM’s Andweniho Arthur, Imran Lukwoga, Ssemambo Morris, Daniel Ngirabakunzi and Sharif Ssebina had confirmed their guild president candidacy for the October polls.
Guild parliament dissolved on 10th September after the appointment of the electoral commissioners in accordance to artical 12 clause (10) (a) of Nkumba University guild constitution
