Ugandans storm Mutoto culture ground in Mbale to launch the gishu circumcision ceremony

Thousands of Ugandans on Saturday 13th,08,2022 Stormed Mutoto Cultural Ground in Industrial City Division of Mbale City for the official launch of the Imbalu (circumcision) ceremony in Bugisu sub-region.


Mr Godwin Mubuya, the chairperson of Bamasaba Imbalu inauguration committee 2022 Said the turn up was over whelming and Saturday ceremony was the first of its kind since Uganda went into Covid-induced lockdown in 2020.


Ms Sarah Maswere Wasake, the General Secretary of Bamasaba Imbalu Organizing committee 2022, said five boys from Mutoto clan were selected to be circumcised .

The Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika, said they deployed both plain and uniform officers to monitor the situatiion on ground though people were many but they had officers.


Imbalu is an a old tradition ceremony among the gishu tribe from both Uganda and Kenya, which defines and unites the people in the region that comprises Mbale, Manafwa, Bulambuli, Sironko and Bududa districts and others in Kenya. They are believed to be descendants of Masaba.
