Makerere University Student Receives His African Author’s Prestigious Award 2021 That He Won Last Year



Daniel Tusiimukye, a second-year student of Makerere University doing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering receives his continental prestigious literature award he won last year at South Africa Embassy in Uganda, campasstv reports.

Tusiimukye was awarded the African Honoree Author’s Award on 31 July in South Africa for his book ‘Golden Arrow,’ a poetry collection that received a warm audience by literature lovers in Africa.

Daniel was born and raised in Rukungiri District in South Western Uganda, Daniel is a poet, author, publisher, and newspaper columnist at the Mt. Kenya Times Newspaper.

The prestigious award won by Makerere’s Daniel Tusiimukye for the first time shock majority of students who didn’t believe that he could scoop that award.

The African literature awards staged in South Africa, that take place yearly are aimed at honouring literally works by Africans that are making a change in the continent through his award reached in the country this month and he received it on Friday at south Africa embassy.

At their fifth rounding this year, different authors across the continent were honoured for their keynote novels, motivational books, storybooks and poetry.

Only two Ugandans came with the awards; Daniel Tusiimukye for his poetry book and Relinquishing my career mean losing my identity.’ This is indeed a great move for Ugandan literature on a continental level.

Speaking to campasstv, Tusiimukye says; The book, ‘Golden Arrow:’ The Smell of a bleeding heart, as it’s subtitled, is a collection of poems that are motivated by daily life and realistic experiences, with good reviews and reads in just one year of its publication, it is one of the preferred Ugandan poetry books on Amazon.

Tusiimukye who is also the CEO of the Publishing house- Iconic Publications says he is aiming at empowering young poets, writer so as to develop their writing talents.

“I plan to make a lifelong contribution to the literature world. I have always dreamt of a day when all writers, young and established, can locate with ease, the platform on which to publicize their literary works. With my budding initiative of Iconic Publications, I plan to bring to light the talent of young writers in the world where publishing has remained a mystery to most of them.” He explained.
The ‘Golden Arrow’ book was also nominated for the Mulher Forte Africa Literature Awards in Botswana in 2020.
