Police Fire Tergas To Disperse Makerere NUP Students Assembly At Freedom Square, Several Students Arrested

There was drama at freedom square whereby police fired tear gas to disperse Makerere University students’ assembly that was meant to take place since they had invited NUP party General Secretary of the party to talk to them and so plan for next week primaries ahead of july preparations

Makerere retired strike machine Roy Rugumayo who doubles as General Secretary UNSA, who had called for the assembly at freedom square was also arrested and driven to unknown destination by police.

The NUP Makerere Chapter Spokesperson Mr Chavez told our scoop that Mr Roy Rugumayo and other two guild aspirants Mwesigwa Calvin and Edwin Bbosa prince were arrested on their way to freedom square where they were supposed to attend inorder to plan for the party primaries nextweek

Lectures were disrupted as students were forced out of the lecture rooms to come out and have a taste of tergas

Students were also seen running from senate, main library, main building and Mitchell hall after police lobbed teargas canisters.
This come just hours after police declined students from holding their general assembly which sparked war between students and police whereby students were battling in run battles

However speaking to the commander in charge of the unit forces, he said that police were informed in time that students were planning to disrupt University activities that were going on, he later warned to students to resist from acts of violence

According to the eye witnesses, they said that students were marching peaceful to the freedom square and later police started shooting live bullets and tergas to disperse students who were demanded to flock into the freedom square forcefully without fail

As we speak now three Makerere University students are behind bars two of them are guild aspirants mention Mwesigwa Calvin Mugambwa, Bbosa Edwin Prince both candidates are vying for the NUP flag ticket.

As the usual Makerere students are the leading best awarded violent students according the research made by one professor.

We later interviewed General Secretary NUP Makerere Chapter Nattabi Margret who condemned the acts of tergasing students yet students have rights to access the freedom square like any other students .She later called upon security agencies to stop working for the junta , police their role is ro keep law and order only .Actually police should not play partisan politics yet NRM gets favors why not Opposition parties says Nattabi Margret

She later called upon students to defend and protect their rights as students otherwise they are doomed by the junta’s operatives.
