Government assures Ugandans that entebbe airport is safe

The news that has been circulating around is about uganda loosing it’s only airport to china’s Exim bank which had borroweed the country $207 .
Its remembered that in 2015, Uganda’s Finance Ministry signed an agreement with Exim Bank
to borrow $207 million as part of an ambitious 20-year civil aviation masterplan to upgrade the country’s only international airport in Entebbe along the shores of Lake Victoria, 43km south of the capital Kampala.

The loan was borrowed at 2% upon disbursement; with a maturity period of 20 years including a seven-year grace period. Entebbe International Airport modernisation and expansion project will equip it to handle 6.1 million passengers and 172,000t of cargo a year by 2033.

However the government yesterday assured Ugandans that Entebbe International Airport has not been surrendered out to China, or any lender, in exchange for cash.Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s only international airport and handles over 1.9 million passengers per year, This makes it inappropriate and unreasonable to just surrender it to lenders so it urged the Ugandan public to be calm.
