Court dismisses election petition and declared Ssenyonyi Joel as Nakawa West MP



The high court in Kampala on 14th-09/2021 ordered Mukesh Shukula Mambumai to compensate the National Unity Platform party spokesperson also Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi.

It’s remembered that Mukesh petitioned Ssenyonyi challenging his victory as the Nakawa west duly elected Member of Parliament . according to Mukesh who was acompanied by his lawyers Asiimwe Mudlasi in petition,he claims that Ssenyonyi was uneducated and also Ssenyonyi’s birth names did not match with those on his academic he wasn’t eligible to be declared member of parliament Nakawa West.
The high court judge Isaac Muwata said that Mukesh did not have substantial evidence to challenge the election of Nakawa West Mp Joel Ssenyonyi.Therefor he directed Mukesh to compensate Ssenyonyi for all the legal costs he has incurred throughout the trial.
According to Joel ssenyonyi,he said he is so happy ,for for the decision that the court made and he will continue to serve the people of Nakawa.

Mukesh who got 0.001% in the election was unsatisfied with the court ruling and he Said he is to appeal in the higher court.

The results of 2021 election ls indicate s that’s Ssenyonyi polled 31,653 votes, his closest rival, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Margaret Zziwa Nantongo came second with 9,450 votes, Democratic Party’s (DP) Kenneth Paul Kakande garnered posit 2,780 votes, the Forum for Democratic Change candidate Wilberforce Kyambadde came fourth with 1,512 votes and the Independent candidate Acer Godfrey Okot 931 votes,Shukla Mukesh came seventh with 806 votes followed by Robert Asiimwe with 668 votes, Christine Gloria Katusiime 479 votes, People’s Progressive Party’s (PPP) Robert Kasozi 300 votes, Zachariah Isabirye 280, Aisha Wanyama 239 votes and Emmanuel Tebisuula Sserumaga came last with 196 votes.
