MUST : NDA (National Drug Authority ) has approved covidex vaccine From mbarara university

Its remembered that a reputable Ugandan pharmacist, pharmacologist and scholar with a PhD in his area of expertise based at Mbarara university – Professor Patrick Engeu Ogwang came out; claiming he had invented a herbal drug that cures COVID-19.

Dubbed COVIDEX, the drug was re-designed and re-purposed from a product which was initially for toothache and mouth Hygiene due to its strong anti-viral components extracted from medicinal plants, according to Prof Ogwang.

Giving proof of effectiveness, Prof Ogwang explained situations in which at least two of his colleagues recovered from Coronavirus with negative tests having used the drug for a period of about three (3) days.

However, the National Drug Authority (NDA) has today approved the use of COVIDEX Herbal Drug for treatment against COVID-19

The NDA released a statement noting: “…after a record time of 14 days of engagements with innovators and assessments of the product information, COVIDEX, has been notified to be sold in licensed drug outlets for supportive treatment in management of viral infections but not as a cure of COVID-19”

NDA has granted COVIDEX an approval based on initial assessment, published literature and safety studies conducted  by the innovator. The product has been formulated from herbal plants that have been traditionally used to alleviate symptoms of several diseases” the statement from NDA adds.

The development comes after a series of controversies between a section of the public and scientists, regarding the effectiveness of the drug.

Days ago, the Pharmaceutical society of Uganda came out clear saying the COVIDEX drug is safe for treatment of COVID-19. The pronouncement came after a 79-year-old patient battling COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit who was given COVIDEX and they improved, according to Dr Grace Nambatya, the Director of Research at the Natural Chemotherapeutics Research Laboratory.
