The Makerere University Chancellor Professor Ezra Suruma has appointed Dr Josephine Nabukenya (Associate Professor) as acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration.
This follows after resigning of Dr William Bazeyo who was a subject of inquiry over lack of credible qualifications to occupy the position.
In a letter dated November 11,2020, Prof. Suruma noted that the appointment doesn’t exceed one year.
“By the powers vested in me under section 56(I)(a) of the University and other Tertiary Institutions Act,2001(as amended). I Professor Ezra Suruma, Chancellor of Makerere University do hereby appoint Dr Josephine Nabukenya acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration of Makerere University,” the letter reads in part.
He added that, “With immediate effect for a period not exceeding one year or until a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor is appointed.”
“I am writing to inform you that today 8th October 2020, I have submitted my resignation from the Position of Ag DVC (F & A) to the appointing authority,” Dr. Bazeyo wrote.
Two former Makerere University students in August this year petitioned the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) to investigate the shortlisting of Bazeyo for the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration-DVCF&A
Sam Ninsiima and Amos Weliki opposed Prof. Bazeyo’s shortlisting on grounds that he lacked credible academic qualifications.
The duo noted that whereas eligible candidates are required to possess a Ph.D. from a recognized institution, Prof. Bazeyo obtained his Ph.D. from the Hawaii based Atlantic International University, which isn’t recognized by the United State Department of Education.
