Presidential debate to be on 4th and 5th December


The debate is being organized by IRCU, together with The Elders Forum Uganda (TEFU), Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD), the National Consultative Forum (NCF), and the Independent Electoral Commission with funding from United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The debate will be organized under the theme, ‘Promoting Peaceful and Inclusive 2020/2021 General Elections.’
The 11 president candidates nominated we’re divided into two groups, the first will have ;
President Yoweri Tibahaburwa Kaguta Museveni, Nancy Linda Kalembe the only female candidate, and 24-year-old John Katumba.
Others are former army commander Mugisha Muntu, Norbert Mao of DP, former Security minister Henry Tumukunde, Joseph Kabuleta Kiiza, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Willy Mayambala, and Fred Mwesigye.
Bishop Joshua Lwere, a member of the council said they have organized two sessions of the debate with the second one being on January 2 and 3.
He added that in the first session five candidates will debate on the first day and the other six will debate the next day. The candidates will after prepare for the second session of the debate slated for January.
“All candidates will have the chance of being on the same flow with the other as there will be switching of candidates in the second session of the debate,” he said.
Lwere made the remarks during a press conference on the coming presidential debate at IRCU offices in Kampala on Friday (November 6, 2020).
On top of the presidential debate, there will be regional debates in selected cities and constituencies for Parliamentary aspirants especially those on the woman member of parliament seat and aspirants for local government positions.
Interparty Organization for Dialogue IPOD Executive Secretary, Frank Ruso said choosing which candidate will debate with who, they are to have a draw where candidates’ agents will choose papers with specifics on when they will debate.
